After making sure Ella was fed, Mason left for a council meeting. Exactly what I wanted to do today. Instead of spending it with my mate in bed. Just thinking of their morning in bed had Mason's cock rising to the occasion. He had barely been able to keep his hands to himself during breakfast. Although he hadn't refrained from kissing her whenever he felt like it. With the first kiss out of the way, Mason felt more at ease giving her affection. A lot of affection.

Instead of taking the path he hopped in his Jeep, it would be faster and that meant he could get back to his little wolf all the sooner. He wasn't sure who had called a meeting, but whoever it was would feel his fury. Anybody who had been mated knew that he would want to spend as much time with Ella as possible. They hadn't completed the mating ritual yet and until they did Mason didn't want her from his sight.

Unfortunately being the alpha meant he would have to be apart from her at any given time should something arise. Something had to change for him to balance having a mate. But what? He thought about it on the drive to the meeting house, only getting the answer as his beta flew past him in his cherry red sports car. Carter will have to take on more duties.

Filing into the meeting house, the tension was thick in the air. This was the first time he had seen everyone since yesterday's debacle and it wasn't looking good for him. Gene wouldn't meet his eye. Carter was texting someone on his phone, not paying any notice to those around him. Scott and Grams were in a heated discussion with Greg watching them curiously and Noah was fuming while pacing.

"How'd it go with the mate?" Nathan gave him a sympathetic smile, wrapping an arm around his shoulders.

"We made up last night. And this morning." He said with a smirk. Nathan dropped his arm and grimaced.

"Lucky bastard. Annie would have had me on the couch." Mason should have been on the couch, but Nathan was right he was one lucky bastard, and he knew it.

"Can we get this shit started?" Gene rumbled from his chair. He would have to talk with him alone later. Hopefully, he could explain himself.

"Yes, I'm anxious to get back to my mate." Pride surged through him and he couldn't help the goofy smile that overtook his face.

"This is blasphemous, she can not be your mate. For Goddess sake, the woman is a damn wolf." Noah snarled, his fist hitting the table.

"What's blasphemous is your disrespect for our alpha's mate." Grams said in a low voice. "How dare you sit here and speak ill of a young woman you know nothing about. If Mason says she is his mate, then that is the truth. It is not something for you to argue." It looked like Grams was about to go on one of her legendary rants, but was cut off when she took a breath.
